In Year 10, all students study a core curriculum of Religious Education, English Language and Literature, Maths, Science and P.E. Students also continue with non-examination Personal Social, Health and Economic Education. Opportunities are given to construct the rest of the examination ‘programme’ from a range of options. Thorough guidance is offered and a dedicated parents’ evening is included in this support. The options are drawn from Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Drama, Music, Geography, History, Physical Education, Child Care, Arabic, Dance, Travel and Tourism, Retail, Sport and a second Modern Language. Students take Biology, Chemistry and Physics in a combined course leading to two GCSEs. Separate sciences, leading to three GCSEs, is offered to those students who have been especially successful in science in Key Stage 3. Most students take 10 GCSEs but a combination of subjects that is less demanding is available. Vocational courses and other ‘support’ options are available and full guidance on these is available.
