A Meditation
by John Henry Newman
God has created me to do
Him some definite service.
He has committed some work
to me which He has not
committed to another
I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection
between persons.
He has not created me
for naught.
I shall do good
I shall do His work.

When a student gains a place at Cardinal Newman Catholic School she or he will be welcomed into a community that prides itself on its care for each individual. Our school mission statement celebrates the uniqueness of each person. We recognise the personal and academic differences within our student body and it is our goal to offer an appropriate level of support and challenge that ensures individual growth and success.
As parents you entrust your children to us and it is our task to join in a partnership with the home to raise that child in a secure environment built on Christian principles that prepares each student for the world. Sound discipline, care and support, and academic challenge are our guidelines and we are confident that your children will benefit from their time at Cardinal Newman and will be encouraged to contribute towards our further growth.

Latest Information
Severe Weather
As you may be aware there is a high probability of severe weather, including snow, over the next week. Staff and students should refer to the school website www.cncs.co.uk where information about any school closure will be available from 6.30am. Alternatively, you can listen to Heart Radio on 102.4 and 103.5 or view their website (www.heart.co.uk). We shall only close if the school is inaccessible and/or there are health and safety issues inside and outside the buildings.
Looking Forward to Lent at CNCS
It is amazing to think that the start of Lent is less than three weeks away. Our Lenten journey will start with the distribution of ashes by students on Ash Wednesday and includes charities awareness and fundraising. We will have opportunities for Stations of the Cross and Reconciliation. There will also be a specific programme for staff and governors called Knowing God Better; a 6 week café style programme which will enable all involved to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and be better equipped to carry out leadership roles in the school. Many thanks to Dominic Dring and Father Kevin ODonnell for organising this. A full programme of our activities will be published after half-term.
Sussex Schools Cross Country
Once again I am pleased to report on the success of our students and the P.E. department. We came first in the Year 10/11 girls event and the Year 8/9 boys event and were runners up in the Year 10/11 combined boys and the Year 8/9 boys race. Meanwhile Charlie DaVall Grice won the Under 20 South of England indoor 1500m last weekend and set a new championship record! Well done to all.
St. Valentines Recital – 9th February
The Music department is holding a classical concert on the last Thursday of this half-term. The concert will take place between 6.45pm and 8.00pm in the Chapel and will promote some of our most gifted students. This is a new addition to the departments calendar and we welcome your support in this event. All are welcome to join us in celebrating the musical achievements of our students on this special evening.
