A Meditation
by John Henry Newman
God has created me to do
Him some definite service.
He has committed some work
to me which He has not
committed to another
I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection
between persons.
He has not created me
for naught.
I shall do good
I shall do His work.

Cardinal Newman Sixth Form provides a wide range of academic courses at varying levels - AS and A Level, Vocational A level, BTEC and GNVQ qualifications - for a community of some 350 students. The quality and experience of our staff has produced a strong tradition of academic success which has enabled students to progress consistently into further and higher education and to access a range of different career paths.
Our sixth form offers the freedom and adult working environment of a traditional College, and adds the leadership opportunities and the supportive framework which are uniquely available within a wider school community.

Our most recent OFSTED inspection (Autumn 2004), exemplifies the views of our students. The inspectors said: “Students are very positive indeed about the sixth form. They feel that the teaching is excellent and that they are given every help and encouragement to do well. They are highly motivated and enjoy their work.”

At Cardinal Newman you will be encouraged to aim high and to achieve your full potential. You will be supported in this challenge by your subject teachers and your personal tutor who will work together with you to help monitor and guide your progress. A range of additional pastoral staff support student needs including a careers advisor, nurse and chaplain.

Cardinal Newman Sixth Form is not only proud of its academic excellence but is also committed to providing a broad education within a supportive Christian community. The College motto, caritas (caring), characterises the excellent relationships that exist between students and staff in the College. We aim to nurture the whole person and you will have the opportunity to develop your spiritual and ethical values. You will also be able to develop talents and leadership through our programme of extra curricular activities – art, sport, music, drama, community based and voluntary work. The College organises regular overseas trips and visits in support of the curriculum.

In recent years the vast majority of our students completing compulsory education through our lower school have elected to study with us post-16. In addition, a significant number of students join the College from other local schools. We are a multi-cultural, multi-racial community with students from a variety of religious and secular traditions. All are equally welcomed and valued.
