A Meditation
by John Henry Newman
God has created me to do
Him some definite service.
He has committed some work
to me which He has not
committed to another
I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection
between persons.
He has not created me
for naught.
I shall do good
I shall do His work.

As part of their studies, our current A2 level students have created a collection of websites which are now available to view. To see these websites, please click the link in the External Links section to the right of this page.
There are many teachers involved in teaching ICT at Cardinal Newman at this year. We have five ful- time ICT specialists plus a further two part-time. Furthermore many staff from the English department involved in our Year 8 ICT/English strategy, together with staff from various departments teaching the Year 7 NC Strategy.
Facilities
The ICT department has 8 ICT rooms; 7 at KS3, 4, 5 and one room especially for post-16. On the 2003/XP network we make full use of the MS suite of programmes together with Macromedia and Jasc and MatchWare applications, all rooms have full Intranet/Internet access.
Key Stage 3 Curriculum
- All Year 7 pupils follow a the new ICT NC Strategy with one lesson per week using the 'ICT for life' scheme of work
- All Year 8 pupils follow an ICT course linked to the ICT KS3 Strategy as well as the English program of study with one lesson per week
- All Year 9 pupils follow an in-house program to prepare them for the OCR National Level 2 course in Year 10. This course will also cover the relevant requirements of the ICT National Curriculum. All Year 9 students have one period of ICT per week
Key Stage 4
Approximately two thirds of the students in Years 10 & 11 choose to take ICT as an option. In September 2006 we started the OCR ICT Nationals Level 2 after many years successfully following the OCR GNVQ Intermediate course. In the last academic year over 99% of the Year 11 cohort successfully completed the OCR ICT Nationals Level 2.
This new course is assessed by 100% coursework - all students have to pass Unit 1 plus an extra half unit to gain at least one GCSE. The aim is for all students to gain at least 1 GCSE equivalent and attempt to achieve the equivalent of two GCSEs. However with extra independent work it is possible to gain extra units up to the equivalent of 4 GCSEs.
Post-16
We have four AS groups in Year 12 – three groups following the EdExcel AGCE in ICT and one following the EdExcel Double AGCE.
Also, there are three A2 groups in Year 13 – two groups following the EdExcel AGCE in ICT and one following the EdExcel Double AGCE.
Traditionally about two-thirds of students go on from the AS to complete the A2.
