Charlotte Eades, who was a student here at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, lost her battle at aged 19 to glioblastoma (brain cancer) in February 2016. Her mum Alex and brother Miles set to work, setting up Charlotte’s BAG (Battle Against Glioblastoma) to raise money for research into the terminal disease.

Alex’s story is truly inspirational and you can read more about why she was nominated here:

Alex lost her daughter Charlotte aged 19 years and one week in February 2016 to glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer which is currently 99.9% terminal.

In October 2016, Alex launched a charity, Charlotte’s BAG (Battle Against Glioblastoma) to raise money for research into and awareness of the disease which kills around 5,000 in the UK every year. There are over 100 types of brain cancer; yet it receives only one % of national cancer research funding.
By September 2017, Alex and Charlotte’s BAG have raised over £120,000 – enough to fund a scientific researcher for three years.

Alex has also provided advice and friendship to numerous other bereaved parents and family members. Despite her overwhelming grief at the loss of Charlotte, Alex has never given up hope that one day there will be a cure for glioblastoma, and has thrown every ounce of her abilities into working towards that day so that no other family has to endure the cruel process of this disease.

Alex is an inspiration to everyone who meets her; she hates to be described as ‘strong’ because she says she is just doing what she has to do, but she is one of the strongest women we have ever met, because she has turned her loss into something which WILL have a positive outcome for thousands. Even though that positive outcome will make no difference to Charlotte (which is painful in itself) Alex continues to fight for others. Please do VOTE FOR ALEX. Call 03301 236203.
