A group of Year 10 students travelled to St. John’s College, Oxford with Mr Shears and Mr Stone to discover what it might be like to study at one of the world’s leading universities.
After an introduction to Oxford University, a tour of the College and lunch in the Hall our students were given taster sessions in Biology and English before meeting with ex-Newman student Iggy Wood, currently a first year undergraduate at New College. Iggy helped our students to see studying at Oxford as something to which they could all aspire. One student commented: “He made me realise that if I found a subject I was passionate about and worked hard I could follow his example.” It was a very busy and successful day.
Further information about Oxford will be available on Monday 10th July when members of the St. John’s College Student Roadshow team will be in school to work with interested students from Years 10 and 12. Further information about this event is available by e-mail from Assistant Head Teacher Mr. Shears (firstname.lastname@example.org).
