A Meditation
by John Henry Newman
God has created me to do
Him some definite service.
He has committed some work
to me which He has not
committed to another
I am a link in a chain,
a bond of connection
between persons.
He has not created me
for naught.
I shall do good
I shall do His work.

When a student gains a place at Cardinal Newman Catholic School she or he will be welcomed into a community that prides itself on its care for each individual. Our school mission statement celebrates the uniqueness of each person. We recognise the personal and academic differences within our student body and it is our goal to offer an appropriate level of support and challenge that ensures individual growth and success.
As parents you entrust your children to us and it is our task to join in a partnership with the home to raise that child in a secure environment built on Christian principles that prepares each student for the world. Sound discipline, care and support, and academic challenge are our guidelines and we are confident that your children will benefit from their time at Cardinal Newman and will be encouraged to contribute towards our further growth.

From the Head
Ski Trip to Serre Chevalier
The visit was a resounding success helped by beautiful, powder snow falling every night. Our novice skiers worked hard in their ski lessons and progressed so quickly. Tourists in the resort complimented staff on the behaviour of our students and the coach company took the time to email me, “Last week my colleague and myself had the privilege to drive coach number 2 with your Year 8 students to Serre Chevalier in France on your annual ski trip. Can you pass on our thanks to all of your staff and parents for the well behaved and polite behaviour of all on our coach for this trip, we should be very happy if asked to drive for your school again”.
BBC News School Report
Kathryn Park a BBC producer, came in to school last week with a camera man and editor to help our students produce and present a news story about a sports personality at school. Charlie Da'Vall Grice in Year 11 was interviewed as Charlie has been the Sussex cross country champion for his age group for the last five consecutive years and holds the town's 800 metre record. Charlie is hoping for greater success on an international scale in the future and we are looking forward to our live report next Thursday.
Number 1 Tennis Player in Britain!
Joe Mills in Year 13 is currently ranked number one (under 18) in Britain. This is as a result of recent performances where he has reached the fi nal in two important competitions, including the final of U18 Nationals at the National Tennis Centre in January. Joe's targets are to improve his International ranking and to play at Wimbledon in the summer.
U-Turns in The Upper Drive
I am sorry to have to raise this issue again, but there remains a core of parents who are infringing traffic regulations by doing a U-turn in The Upper Drive whilst dropping their children off in the morning. This manoeuvre is highly dangerous on the busy main road and I am contacting our Police Community Support Officers to monitor the situation in the mornings.
