Appeals
If your child is not offered a place at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, you have the right to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel (set up in accordance with sections 88 and 94 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998).
How to Appeal (Year 7 September 2026 Entry)
Appeals must be made in writing and must set out the reasons on which the appeal is made. Appeals should be lodged with The Appeals Team at Brighton and Hove City Council www.brighton-hove.gov.uk no later than 20 school days after the National Offer Day for secondary schools (2 March 2026).
Completed paperwork must be received by Brighton and Hove City Council no later than 27 March 2026, and will be heard within 40 school days.
What happens next?
The appeals system is operated independently from the school. Parents/carers have the right to make oral representations to the Appeal Panel. Late application appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged. In-year applications will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
